Forage Crops :: SILO FILLING AND SEALING
SILO FILLING AND SEALING

  • Filling should be rapid and it should be completed within two days or less.
  • For creating anaerobic condition inside the silo, the forages should be compressed while filling.
  • Never fill a silo when it is raining.
  • Distribute forage uniformly in the silo

Sealing

  • For maintaining the silo anaerobic, it is must to stop the entry of atmospheric air inside the silo.
  • This is done by leveling the top and tramp the last few feet, especially near the walls.
  • Covering the top by using any type of insulator like mud, plastic.
  • For bunker or trench silo apply sufficient load on top to facilitate compactness.
